The Mazda 6 has never been touted as a particularly aggressive or sporty car. Its smaller and sportier counterpart, the Mazda 3, has always been more common in the aftermarket tuning world…just as the Civic has to the Accord, the Jetta to the Passat, and the Impreza to the Legacy—until now! This new Mazda 6 on Vossen VFS1 flow formed wheels is a prime example of how a few key changes can be made to the already-aggressive new body style, resulting in a strikingly truculent sedan.
We started the morning early in Chiba, home of Tokyo Auto Salon. The owner of this particular Mazda 6, as well as an aero company called Chronos, found us a nice location on the water and we started working out magic behind the lens. Just as we began to get comfortable, however, we were confronted by a very unhappy gentleman and asked to move along..
With Shizuoka City in our sights, we got on our way, driving through Tokyo and Yokohama and then south, where we caught our first glimpse of Mt Fuji. While we knew that we’d like be able to see the legendary Japanese volcano, we had no idea just how up-close and personal we’d be getting with it later in the day.
Before we knew it, though, we were winding our way up a hillside behind a very nicely-built Mazda CX5 on Vossen VFS2 wheels. Here and there we’d catch another glimpse of the peak, but it wasn’t until we rounded the bend you see here (above) that we were truly able to appreciate the opportunity and beauty that was before us.
With what seemed like the smallest possible patch of asphalt overhanging very abrupt hillside, we positioned the Mazda 6 on Vossen VFS1 cleverly, showcasing both the car and the volcano, in all of their combined-awesomeness.
The Mazda 6, wearing our 20-inch VFS1 flow formed wheels, modeled about while Mt. Fuji lurked in the background. We moved the car around a bit and caught the attention of several passersby in the short time we were there, making friends with local Japanese people left and right. One nice gentleman even had to get down on the ground and see what Dela was looking at—I think he got it!
After getting the shots we needed we wrapped up and made our way south to our end destination, Shizuoka City, for the Vossen Owners Meet. We couldn’t have asked for a better wheelman (thanks Chronos!) and we couldn’t have enjoyed ourselves more. As always, we can’t wait to get back on the other side of the world and spend more time in Japan. Thanks again to Mondera Japan for the hospitality and logistical support.
